Mangalam Group of Publications and Educational Institutions is the brainchild of Late Sri. M. C. Varghese (1933–2006), Mangalappallil, Kottayam, who was a visionary leader and adventurous entrepreneur. From its humble beginning in 1969, Sri. Varghese raised the flagship company of the group, Mangalam Publications India Ltd., to one of the leading publishing houses in India. Today the Mangalam Group publishes the Mangalam daily newspaper, several weekly magazines and an online newspaper. Mangalam TV and Radio Mangalam, both begun recently, are also slowly ascending the popularity graph.
M. C. Varghese College of Arts & Science(Estd. 2011) is a fit memorial for the great visionary who left an indelible imprint on the sensibilities of his contemporary Malayalees through an impressive array of publications. After his demise in 2006, his friends and relatives wanted to erect a suitable memorial as an encomium to this multi–faceted genius and the Arts College bearing his name was the outcome. Initially the college was opened in the Mangalam Press building at Neelimangalam, Kottayam. When a multi–storey modern building was finished at Mangalam Campus, Ettumanoor, the College was shifted to the new premises in 2014. Since its inception in 2011, the college is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
